Bio Sketch

Kathryn Bannister is an ordained United Methodist serving as Sr. Pastor of the Rush County United Methodist Parish, a cooperative parish of four, rural congregations in western Kansas.  She served on the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches from 1991-98.  At the Harare Assembly, she was elected as one of eight presidents of the World Council of Churches, a post she will serve until the next WCC Assembly.  Kathryn also serves as a United Methodist member of the Executive Committee of the Consultation on Church Union and as a director of the United Methodist General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns.   Her husband is a farmer/rancher and they have a six-year old daughter.

Rush County UM Parish is a four-point cooperative parish comprised of the United Methodist churches in LaCrosse, McCracken, Otis, and Bison, KS.
1996 to the present.

Ecumenical Involvement

World Council of Churches

United Methodist delegate to 7th and 8th Assemblies (Canberra and Harare).

Served on Central Committee 1991-1998.   Member of the 8th Assembly Planning Committee.  Elected in Harare as one of eight Presidents of the WCC. Have served 1991 to the present on the Board of Directors of the US Office of the WCC.  Will serve until the next assembly as the Moderator of the US Conference of the WCC and the Board of Directors of the US Office of the WCC.

Consultation on Church Union

Have served as United Methodist member of COCU Executive Committee since 1997.  Delegate to the January 1999 COCU Plenary.

I also participate in the Rush County Ministerial Alliance and greatly enjoy local ecumenical work.

United Methodist Involvement

UM General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns

Served as director of the Commission 1992-96, and am currently serving as a director for the 2000-04 quadrennium.
